Appendectomy - removing the appendix

Breast aspiration, biopsy or mastecomy - draining painful cysts or infection, removing part or all of the breast for unusual lumps or cancer

Colectomy - removing part of the colon, e.g. for diverticulosis or colon cancer
-
Herniorrhaphy - fixing a hernia in the groin, umbilicus ('belly button') or a prior abdominal surgical incision site
-
Laparoscopy - using a telescopic camera to look into the abdomen, often searching for causes of pain, or extent of disease, e.g. cancer
-
Lung biopsy - taking a piece of the lung
-
Lung resection - removing the lung, usually for cancer

Thoracoscopy - using a telescopic camera to look into the chest cavity, often searching for causes of fluid collections or to identify extent of disease, e.g. cancer
-
Skin biopsy or excision - removing a skin lesion which may be unusual, painful, or cancerous
