25 July 2008 Next steps 196 The petition deadline passed yesterday. Today I will check with the county clerks in Shasta and Sutter counties to get an estimate of submissions and contact registered campaign members. I do not believe that we have the 7000 signatures we need to appear on the November ballot. At this point we have three choices:
  1. Pay the nominating fee to get two more weeks to collect the remaining signatures
  2. Wait for the write-in candidate filing period and file as a write-in candidate
  3. Continue the campaign to generate more interest in the process, but wait until 2010 to run again

If we have 1500 or more signatures, the nominating fee is zero, so I would think we should proceed for the two additional weeks. If we have less than 1500 signatures, I think it is unlikely that we will obtain more than 5000 signatures in two weeks. In that case, I would tend to choose continuing the campaign (#3), but leave open the option of a write-in candidacy depending upon circumstances and your opinions.

If you want to have a say in this choice, please provide your contact information by registering on this web site.
