Financing and advertising |

I have been thinking about money and advertising recently as I have been
preparing ad copy to promote our message to the People. This campaign is specifically about limiting money in politics and substituting transferred trust for purchased name recognition. However, our message will not reach the People by email alone. I always knew that I would have to purchase some advertising to promote the message. The challenge for me is to balance the need to promote the message while minimizing the monetary cost and promoting the opportunity to meet the candidate over simply seeing my name in the ad.
I have been extremely fortunate to have a colleague and friend with remarkable design skills helping me with this ad. I think we have struck a reasonable balance among these somewhat conflicted goals. As always, I will be interested in hearing what the People have to say about it. I think I have also set a reasonable spending limit which provides adequate exposure of the message in the two largest population centers in the district without spending uncontrollably. While it became clear early in my discussions with the local newspapers that I would be unable to stay under my original budget goal (1% of the voluntary spending limit of $482,000), I will continue to spend as little as necessary. Please share any thoughts or suggestions you may have.
