Candidate Characteristics
What party are you?
I am non-partisan or . . .
Why should I support you if you are not [a Republican or Democrat] like me?
If you think that your party is
listening to the big donors more than it is listening to you, then maybe you want your party to listen to you more. If you support me being on the ballot, it will force the political parties to reassess their activities. They will realize that others who follow me who will do an even better job convincing you that change is needed, and maybe you can do that without a party. Each year the number of "decline-to-state" voters is increasing faster than the numbers for either major party. When the election comes, you can still vote for your party candidate in November, but supporting me getting on the ballot will help you help your party to change, hopefully for the better.
Maybe you don't think that the party labels really matter any more. Is a republican the same whether they are male or female, rich or poor, religious or not? Not every democrat is the same as the next either. It is time to focus on the issues that affect Californians and stop focusing on your party label. Governor Schwarzenneger started to make progress in what he called "Post-partisanship". It is much easier to say "I'm a Republican" and vote the party line, that requires no thought. This campaign is about discussing the issues and considering the options and choosing the best solutions even when they are not the easy solutions.
