How did you get into politics?

I have always been the person who spoke out when something didn't seem right. I was always willing to speak up for the person who didn't want to speak up for themself. In many situations, I saw how we might do things better than we were doing them.

I began my surgical practice in 1992 in Marysville (Yuba County), moving to Yuba City (Sutter County) from Los Angeles the same year. I joined the county medical society and came to the meetings. At a meeting in 1993 I asked my usual pointed questions. Afterward, the society leadership suggested that I should represent our area to the state association meeting as a delegate. I started in healthcare politics but expanded into political reform after spending many years working with our elected representatives.
